After OTT, Zee5 is also going to launch HiPi short video platform after India suddenly bans China's TikTok

The recent ban on TikTok and 58 other mobile applications by the Government of India have also resulted in a high number of boosting the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiative as Zee5, the online video streaming over-the-top (OTT) media service has always announced to launch a 'short video' platform for the content creators in India to get more viewers.

Following the ban on 59 Chinese apps, various homegrown apps are also hitting the market as alternatives. The latest one is mainly Zee5's HiPi, a short music video maker app to replace the now-banned TikTok. The new social media is mainly said to be "made for an Atmanirbhar Bharat" (self-reliant India) and is aimed at content creators in India.

Zee5 HiPi Launch

The HiPi app by Zee5 is also set to debut on July 15 and aims to attract users from TikTok. So, for now, there's not much information regarding the HiPi app. Zee5, however, has always shared a couple of screenshots that tell us a few details about the HiPi app. Interested users will also need to register to view, create, and share videos. Zee5 is already been very popular amongst its viewers as well already in the OTT platform in India and is also said to have over 1.25 lakh hours of on-demand content.

Zee5 HiPi: Indian Alternative

Ever since the ban on 59 Chinese apps, people have also been looking for good working alternatives, preferably Indian-made apps. Zee5 can be considered as an already popular platform, mainly taking on other international OTTs like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and others.

Bringing in the HiPi will also further up Zee5's game in the Indian market. So, from the looks of it, the HiPi app is mainly going to be quite different from TikTok. Zee5 is all set to be offered free for customers of JioFibre, Airtel, Vodafone Idea with select plans. So, as an India-centric platform, Zee5 mainly offers OTT in various Indian languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, and so on. We can always expect to see language-support in the HiPi app as well.

Nevertheless, Zee5 HiPi will also have some competition from other apps, mainly including multinational enterprises like YouTube, Facebook, and others, who have also been working on TikTok alternatives.
